As of January 1, 2024, we can already mark the first year of the European joint research project PowerizeD, for which the consortium of numerous project partners gathered last week at the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (imec) headquarters in Leuven, Belgium, for the first project review.
Our Sales Director Bernd Neuner represented ZES ZIMMER on-site and shared our present contribution to the work package 'Tools & Standards', specifically to the cross-sectional topic 'Measurements - Advanced measurement tools for efficiency & EMI'. The presentation of the progress and results achieved so far in the individual contributions of the cross-sectional topic was led by Gert Rietveld from VSL, the national metrology institute of the Netherlands, located in Delft.
Our participation in the project focuses on the development of a hardware demonstrator for precise efficiency measurement in power electronic applications with voltage levels above 1000 V, as developed within this project. Additionally, and equally fundamental, the measurement solution we are going to have developed and characterized will complete the measurement of grid distortion effects for quantitatively assessing power quality in the extended frequency range. In the latter, the main focus is particularly on harmonics resulting from power-converting electrical devices, whose technologies and operating principles are based on high-frequency switching wide-bandgap semiconductors (semiconductors with a wide bandgap such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN)).
The project review meeting spanned over 2 days and was successfully concluded with the initiation of the next steps in the overall endeavor. The project-related thematic work that took place during the day concluded with joint dinners, which invited deeper conversations and networking in a pleasant atmosphere. We thank all participants of this assembly, as well as the project colleagues for the organization, execution, and presentation of the current statuses, and look forward to another successful year and collaboration of the PowerizeD project.
